Yoga for Longevity

At Yoga Tree, we have classes specifically geared for students whose mobility, balance, flexibility, and strength limitations require a more comprehensive class. In our selected classes, the pace is slower and we use more props to establish stability and access to the poses.

Where to Start

A good place to begin with yoga for seniors is Restorative Yoga and Gentle Hatha classes. These gentle types of yoga are therapeutic, and are practiced slowly with the aid of yoga props such as bolsters, straps and blocks. Yoga props extend your reach when needed and when there isn’t enough flexibility to do the pose otherwise.

Restorative Yoga is useful for mild back pain and is a way to calm the mind when one is feeling stressed or anxious. Restorative yoga postures are gentle and can be used for many health conditions ranging from multiple sclerosis to arthritis to insomnia. Since Restorative Yoga is slow and gentle, most individuals can participate in this style.

For more of a challenge, practitioners in good physical shape can start with energizing Hatha Yoga classes which are more vigorous than Restorative Yoga. These classes move at a faster pace and are excellent choices for toning and sculpting your body.

It’s easy to get started! Simply purchase a One Week Unlimited pass for $20 or the Two Weeks Unlimited pass for $30 and drop in for any Level 1 class on our weekly schedule.

Remember, we are here to have fun and grow. You don’t have to be as flexible as a pretzel to do yoga! This notion is a myth and one that keeps many people from trying something they can adapt to. With the practice of yoga overtime, you will see yourself grow taller, feel stronger and more flexible!
